A Kashmere rug is a hand-knotted oriental rug from Kashmir. Kashmere rugs or carpets have intricate designs that are primarily oriental, floral style in a range of colors, sizes and quality.This type of carpet weaving is not considered indigenous to Kashmir but thought to have been introduced from Persia. Most designs are distinctly Persian with some local variations.Kashmere rugs carry a high premium in the world of handmade, hand-knotted rugs and are next only to the renowned Persian rugs.

Kashmere rugs are renowned to have bright, jewel-like color tones such as sapphire blue, ruby red, emerald green, aquamarine, amethyst, and ivory. Rugs from Kashmir are traditionally made in oriental, floral designs that typically involve the significant and culturally important motifs such as the paisley, chinar tree, (the oriental plane) and tree-of-life. Most of these designs are rooted in the Kashmere way of living and are a symbolic representation of the age-old Kashmir tradition of hospitality, warmth and genuine love.

Hand knotted pure silk carpets are world famous for their softness and craftsmanship. These carpets are very expensive due to their being labor intensive and it takes at least one year to create a good silk carpet. Generally silk carpets are made up of 80% of silk yarn and 20% of cotton yarn. These carpets have more than 400 knots per square inch. 100% pure silk carpets have very high knotage per inch. The knots per square inch of such carpet can range between 400-1600 knots per square inch.
